Music: Grand Canyon Suite
Ferde Grofé (27 March 1892 - 3 April 1972) was an American composer, arranger and pianist. During the 1920s and 1930s, he went by the name Ferdie Grofé.
Grofé is best known for his composition of the Grand Canyon Suite (1931), a work regarded highly enough to be recorded for RCA Victor with the NBC Symphony conducted by Arturo Toscanini (in Carnegie Hall in 1945, with the composer present). The earlier Mississippi Suite is also occasionally...

    Interesting. Thanks for including the ATC and intercom. So, was that an IFR (Y) flight? When I plan that route IFR, it looks like almost 7 hours. Even at 10.5 gph, you'd need ferry tanks to have 45 min reserve left on landing (never mind alternate and contingency). It sounded like you landed with over an hour of fuel left.

    • @uberanalyst
      @uberanalyst 9 лет назад

      IFR flight. We did not use ferry tanks -- was about a 6.5 hour flight from Wiener Neustadt, Austria to Wick, Scotland. Power was set to about 60% burning a bit more than 10 gph. Plane holds 76 gal total, so we had one hour reserve after landing.

    Beautiful place. I saw your flight from Wiener Neustadt. What is your impressions when it comes to this model of Diamond? Why Diamond not Seneca for example?

    • @uberanalyst
      @uberanalyst 10 лет назад

      The Piper Seneca is ancient technology from the last century. The DA42-VI consumes half as much fuel (widely-available JetA), has computer-controlled engines just like your car, uses carbon-fiber construction (like a Formula 1 race car) that doesn't corrode, is fun-to-fly with stick and bubble canopy, and most importantly, has the best safety record of any twin-engined airplane. I also like its curves. :-)

    I tried it the other day with my Contour+2 and it did not capture any audio from the intercom, but today (see video in my channel) it worked perfectly - probably wasn't patched in correctly. So, are you still flying your "Dash Six"? I would love to fly one one day, I wonder how much different it is to a "Standard" NG, apart from the datasheet?

    Yes, my brand new aircraft being ferried to the US from Europe (Wiener Neustadt, Austria) where it was built. Very nice to fly with twin Austro (modified Mercedes A-class car engine) diesel engines and computerized engine controls. About 25 knots faster than the original Thielert-powered DA42 model, this is the first "dash six" DA42 in North America.

    Our local flight school started offering formation flying lessons in Diamond DA40 aircraft. Some of the instructors are former USAF fighter pilots. About 10 pilots have now been through the program requiring at least 3 lessons. Used "The Formation Pilot's Knowledge Guide" -- Google for it, it's available for free online -- as the textbook.
